letter to the editor/ people for the ethical treatment of animals
hmm,
7 of the same 'letters to the editor' to multiple newspapers
about duck shooting, and unfortunately none were published for today (Saturday)
"I'm writing to urge you, and readers, to call off the 2010 duck shooting season. I believe most Australians would be appalled by the idea that their government would permit the slaughter of native wildlife for fun. This 'sport' is cruel, unsustainable and has no place in our society. Native waterbird numbers across eastern Australia have dropped 82% over the past 26 years and Victorian waterbird numbers dropped a massive 60% in just one year - between 2007 and 2008. With the nations' waterbird numbers in severe decline, this is an issue of national environmental importance. Duck shooting is now unsustainable due to drought and climate change. In addition to these environmental concerns, duck hunting inevitably causes significant animal suffering. An estimated one in four birds shot are wounded and may suffer for extensive periods of time. New South Wales, Western Australia and Queensland have all already banned duck hunting. Please follow their lead and end this cruel slaughter."
THIS is something that i've been aware of for a while... last year i sent only one in; to the border mail
http://www.bordermail.com.au/news/opinion/letters/general/duck-season-simply-cruel/1453874.aspx
I'm sure the red neck victorian racist hicks wouldn't of given a fuck anyway.
saving, saving, saving
- Saigon is Australia's last circus elephant
- At 55 years of age, she is now too old to perform. Yet she is still trucked from town to town with Perry Bros Circus, spending months on end in a barren enclosure out the back of a truck, surrounded by an electric fence.
- We are calling upon Perry Bros to retire Saigon from circus life and to a facility where her behavioural needs can be met, and where she can enjoy quality of life for the first time in her life, for the rest of her life. Please support our campaign to secure Saigon's release
